About the Event

On Wednesday, June 5th at 5:30 PM join the Blue Grass Trust For Historic Preservation (BGT) in partnership with the Henry Clay Memorial Foundation and the Kentucky Hemp Heritage Alliance, for an exclusive double-header Hemp History DeTour featuring Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate and Hopemont, The Hunt-Morgan House in Lexington.

Learn how hemp production helped make John Wesley Hunt the first millionaire West of the Alleghenies, and why Henry Clay’s “American System” was heavily based on his desires to protect and advance Kentucky hemp production!

The DeTour will commence at Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate located at 120 Sycamore Rd. In Lexington with a tour of the first floor of the mansion, followed by an open tour of the grounds and hemp plot. Following the Ashland tour, guests will caravan to Hopemont, The Hunt-Morgan House in Downtown Lexington around 6:30 pm for the after-party, featuring an open house tour of the Hopemont mansion, including the Kentucky Hemp Museum, with hemp-infused beer from Rock House Brewing and hemp foods available for purchase.

This special event is part of the “Discover the Hemplands” event series by the Heritage Hemp Trail and the Kentucky Hemp Heritage Alliance marking the 10th Annual Hemp History Week.
